ReadSmart Today
ReadSmart technology is currently in use in a range of media. Syntax:
A Generative Introduction by Andrew Carnie (Blackwell Publishing, 2006)
and Spanish Dagger by Susan Wittig Albert (Berkley Books, 2007) were
the first books published using ReadSmart. Several more books published
with ReadSmart are forthcoming: Never Fear by Scott Frost (Jove Books,
June 2008), The Silver Moon Elm by MaryJane Davidson and Anthony Alongi
(Ace Books, June 2008), Sword of the Highlands by Veronica Wolff (Berkley
Sensation, June 2008), Halting State by Charles Stross (Ace Books, July
2008),Eye of the Beholder by David Ellis (Berkley Production, August 2008)
and Jinx by Jennifer Estep (Berkley Books, September 2008).
ReadSmart has been tested in several direct mail solicitations, including
fund raising solicitations involving half a million households. In these tests
ReadSmart formatting increased both the number of responders and the
average (and total) amount of money donated. As a result of these postive
findings, LTI has entered into an agreement with Direct Group, a direct
mailing company, to use ReadSmart formatting on their direct mail materials.
Currently, LTI operates as a service bureau providing ReadSmart formatting
for Microsoft Word, QuarkXPress, and Adobe InDeisgn documents with a
quick turnaround time. Our algorithms can be adapted for use with any text
or layout programs. Our software plugins are used currently by LTI’s production
staff for our ReadSmart service bureau, but will eventually be available
through download for third party use via software licensing.
